Mk3 16v vrs Mk4 1.8 T
« on: 04 March 2004, 15:51 »
Has anyone had a head to head and what was the outcome. Apparently mk3 is quicker off the mark but i'd guess with the turbo it would pick up alot quicker mid range?

i'd say the 16v would take off first and only by say 50mph would the 1.8T start to take off.......same with the vr6 it takes time for it to get moving.......

top end is roughly the same, but im sure the turbo mk4 will get there quicker.

and 0-60mph the official figures are faster and the mk4 150Bhp has been raced at Santa Pod as a STANDARD car and its time was 7.9secs.

The official tested figure by Evo magazine for the mk3 is 7.6 seconds. I believe that the term is "nuff said"

Since when did pod measure 0-60 anyway, thought they did 1/4 mile times there (I may be wrong) or are you making those figures up, as I'm sure they're different to ones you posted in another thread. Unless of course that's the 1/4 mile time you've posted in which case you really are making them up!

Purely in the interest of science *cough* I raced my friends mk3 valver in my 1.8T. Both cars modded with full stainless steel systems but that's it. Here's what happened..
0-60 he pulled on me, half a car length ahead by 60.
60-80 I started to creep up
By 95 we were level pegging
Continued to pull on him and was maybe a full car length ahead by 120 before shutting down (ran out of road)
Not sure if that'll settle an argument or cause one  ;D we all love our own cars !

The Mk3 16v is faster. Weighs less, same power, lower 0-60 time.

Modifications -

1 x Kenwood KDC-7024M
1 x Dull Aluminium Golf Ball Gearknob. Clearly worth about 10bhp on its own.
