Guys

Thanks for your responses. I did drive the ED30 today and it feels totally different, although looks wise inside it's exactly the same and aside from the exhausts the alloys are the only thing that seperate it.

But putting your foot down gives you a different feeling altogether.

My main problem is not to buy R32 or GTI, it's to buy R32 or not at all. It's without doubt an exciting car but my question is, is it worth the money.

It drives beautifully though and I can only imagine what would happen if I really pushed it on the test drive.

One other question, new alloys or old alloys. I think the old ones are Zolder which look a lot better than the new ones.

Once again, thanks for all your help, I am totally confused whether to throw caution to the wind or be sensible.....

Sheeeeeeeeat

Been reading all the posts on this forum.

Looks like GAP insurance is a must. Is this available as part of the insurance or only from VW?

You should be able to get gap insurance from most insurers, but don't pay more than £300 for 3 yrs cover and if possible get the dealer to throw it in for free as a deal softener.

I used to think like that. The one thing that puts life into perspective is when you lose someone near to you. I realised that where we are is a one shot deal and the decisions we make form our lives, who we are and affect those who we love around us. Don't procrastinate about how external issues may affect your decision. The decision for something like this is a simple one:- if you like it, want it, can afford it and it doesn't adversely affect those who you love....GET IT!

Oooooh...that was abnormally philosophical from me there

That's right, thanks.

Now just got to sort the finance. VW have offered me something that is a bit "mafia".....

Then I tried to apply a loan at bank and they're going on about credit checks etc, makes me die.......

Anyway, I'll sign off for now and come back when I've bought it........

OMG I think I'll have to get a cheap 2/3/4th hand Mk5 R32 is a couple of years time... I really do miss that car.  I wonder how much an earlier one will be worth in 2-3 years time.  Here's hoping that the Mk6 GTI/R32/6 is a brilliant car so as to further depress Mk5 R32 values... somehow, I have a feeling that the Mk6 will not be as good thereby keeping Mk5 residuals high... well at least my Ed30 will still be worth something then..

it's roughly the same as the one in the photo you have with vaguely tinted back windows

my choice would be shadow blue and not dbp but i'm not buying it new  :undecided:

got to make a decision by monday

my problem as well is i might only keep it for say a year or two years

what levels of depreciation could i expect? it's got quite a lot of options......

My local dealer told me that options don't make much difference when it comes to resale.  Thats BS as I have found from selling two loaded Mk5s and one basic spec Mk5 GTI... maybe 10 years down the line it doesn't matter that much but even then you'd sell it much faster.
