I got 9% discount on new Ed30 built to my specs. The dealer is an acquaintance. And I bet he still took his cut. So 12% is nothing special, the guys want to undercut competition and take lower margins for that. That is what I think.

Discounts are hard to come by with most UK VW dealers and 12% is unheard of, dealers typically say they work to 10% profit margins. Lucky you, knowing a dealer personally. The best deal I ever got was 18% off a new Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 in 1987 :smug:

You need to put £2k down when you order a GTi from this company, but what a deal it is and they are quoting 10 weeks delivery. Must be worth a punt from some prospective owner

The dealers margin is 15% from VW & as a franchise they'll get various kick backs i.e. selling x amount, meeting targets & good feedback from customers. 12% of a new car is not to be sniffed at.

12% off my ED30 would have been £3,000

And my GTI

Discount will be on the basic car price and not necessarily all the extras. But still a significant saving though. Wish I was in the same position as last year and not suffering from premature ejaculation

These cars must be imports, or am I missing something here?

Definately imports but with a pan-Eropean 2 year warranty. Car can still be registered with VW UK. Other than that, some dealers may discriminate against them come trade-in, but sell privately and you can still retain the benefit of a significant saving. Also, insurance may be an issue, but as long as the car is certified as full UK spec, this should not be too much of an issue. A 3rd year warranty can also be purchased from either VW UK or any independent warranty company.

Its only the self-serving UK motor trade that will discriminate against it, but then again, we ain't really in the EU - we're Brits and hated by most of the rest of the world  :embarassed:
