I've heard of up to 1k on showroom cars, but there will always be some dealer that will give more on a part-ex or freebies just to close the deal, especially at the end of a month. I got nowt off mine when I ordered it but then again, I got the car I wanted built to my own spec. and if I ever get warranty issues, I will expect exemplary service. Ask my missus, I am VERY demanding

Another option is to buy nearly new - UK cars at discounted prices with balance of UK warranty.

Ah ok, so 5% on a new order, UK supplied/3yr warranty would be a pretty good deal by the sounds of it?

Anything about/over 1K is a good deal for a UK VAG dealer supplied car. You buying one ?

Don't forget to also haggle in some freebies such as free servicing, premium mats, bootliner, luggage net, mudflaps, bodywork/interior lifeshine, full tank of fuel etc, etc

Test driving a couple of stock GTI's tomorrow, manual and dsg, see which I prefer. If I like the car will place an order for an Ed30. Love that interior! Anyone want to buy a 996 C2?? Wife has this odd bump developing ;) so need a 5 door for a couple of years. Not sure how long it will take me to void the warranty with the mods I want to stick on it!

Why are the deals so bad in the UK??

I've just bought a brand new Edition 30 for for 18k in New Zealand, full spec, and with easily arranged discount. The dealers were exemplary.

This car has to shipped from Germany to get here too!!!
EDITION 30.
I couldn't eat a whole one.

You lucky sods....

We get shafted by the tax mad anti motorist UK Government, all the loony left environmental do gooders, the weather is crap and to top it all Northern Hemisphere sport is crap - Cricket and Rugby specifically. All we've got is the Sky TV millions to give to over-paid foreign primadonnas who undermine our national Football team

Rant over,,,,,

You lucky sods... :smug:

Where's that Aus immigration web page again

I bet 20k will be for the poverty spec (ie, no DSG or monza's).

Edit: You get a basic 2007 spec 3 door GTI for £17995 with ANY  transmission - manual or DSG box  Presumably these are pre-registered cars with delivery miles only.

The ad also quotes that price for a 2008 model order with a 3 year warranty and delivery prior to Christmas.

No doubt a 2008 model will cost more and extras will bump up the price but the current VW dealer price is £20607 for the manual and £21937 for the DSG respectively.

No VW dealer will get anywhere near that discount on a new GTI built to order.

I would be slightly wary of EMG as featured in that PistonHeads ad, as they are blatantly not complying with UK Trading Standards legislation!

There is no address of either the registered office, or the trading premises (one of which MUST be supplied), and when you click on the "contact us", it takes you to a hotmail address.

As the old saying goes: "buyer beware".  Seems like a good way to loose a £2k deposit!
