Standard factory fill oil?????
« on: 10 September 2007, 03:45 »
Does anyone know if the VW 504 longlife oil is always the  VW 'factory fill' on a new GTI?

Is it always Castrol Edge?

The engine is using a little oil as I'm running it in and I don't want to cross contaminate it with different spec dealer oil when I top up.

Thankyou.

I've heard that factory fill can be either Castrol or Fuchs, dependent on who has tendered for the cheapest price.  Either way, all engines are factory filled with the latest 504.00/507.00 LongLife 3 spec.

Got a litre of Mobil 1 with my car when new. Due a service on 24/09 and will be expecting the same. Might even provide the oil myself to save a few £'s

If it is Mobil 1 ESP - then you are OK, if it is not ESP, then sling it in the bin, or use it in your lawnmower, because dispite the claims on the bottle, the standard Mobil 1 is NOT VW approved.

So what would you use if you needed to top up??

And is cross contamination an issue as is could be one of two brands??

Just checked TT - it is Mobil 1 5W-30 ESP formula

Had to top up the oil once during the first 1000k or so but not a drop since - done about 6k so far.

Is this also the oil i should be using for the R32?? The dealer told me to keep an eye on the oil over the first few hundred miles, and to top it up where necessary. The sticker on the inside of the driver door has a castrol sticker on it... but im at a loss as to which oil i should use to top up, and avoid cross contamination as I have read about above.

Thx

Dealer should have given you a litre bottle for top-up purposes. If you are unsure, I would call the dealer for clarification.
