I'm thinknig bout getting a 1998 style 1.8T passat hopefully in black.
What's everyones view of them, i'm only 19 and it'd be wierd driving a huge car. But they're cheap £2k and get all the luxuries and insurance is only £1200... whih is £100 more than i'm paying on my mk2 Gti 8v.

nice car but a lot more weight for the 1.8T to pull than either the golf or the bora.
if you want to travel in style then go for it but i'd probably go for bora as the passat could be too big.

Not driven a Passat before....bit I'm a fan of big cars. Driven an Omega and a Carlton before. They are comfy and you can get a lot of kit with them, but as already pointed out - not the fastest things going.
My brothers Bora on the other hand is a decent compromise - bigger than my golf but still with plenty of go under the bonnet.

I like them.
I want an estate one, in that metallic blue, debadged, slammed on coilies and rolling on porsche 911 cup rims.

a friend of mine has a passat 1.8T which compared to my golf is a bit slower but even though it pains me to admit it,its a much nicer ride especially on motorways etc
