Replacement speakers for mk3 door speakers
« on: 23 August 2007, 13:36 »
As above i ask the experts for advise!!!

My MK3 has what i believe to be the original set up single disk somy CD player and the usual door speakers (5 door) and dash tweaters.

I want to upgrade the system without spending loads, whats the best replacement for the door speakers and tweeters in dash.  I also want a smallish sub in the boot as i like some bass in my music but not ott as im too old for all that (well i feel to old anyway!)

Recomendations please

Thanks

Any after market speakers will be an improvement over the standards.
If you are keeping the H/U then go for Sony Xplod's

sony xplod are good cause they fit behind the o.e grilles but aren't the best sound due to them being quite flat...I now have jbl and no grilles but they sound far better. for a sub if you need boot space get an enclosure that is made for the car

I find the Sony's fine but its down to personal taste!

Missed the Sub bit!
Yea do a wheel arch enclosure. Either make one yerself or buy one.
There are a couple of threads around on that subject!

I have had Sony Xplod, Alpine SXS series and foud them both ok, but this time I decided to spend a little more and got Rainbow Deluxe Components.  Well worth the extra!  Perosnally I would say spend a little more for better quality, more so if you enjoy your music !

Junk but loud (JBL) are OK for the money, far better than sony, iv got Focal in the front of mine and they are super sweet but cost £Â£Ã‚£, iv got some junk but louds which i think im gonna put in the back doors, they are brand new and only cost me a tenner and ill be honest they are alot better than the last jbls i had which was 1995.

btw when i say "junk but loud", thats the name we have for the brands night club speakers, not putting down their car audio line tho, like i say for the money they are ok

also upgrading the head unit will give u a better sound...

what about vibe ? speakers ? i had a set in my old car sounded good they set me back £50 tho

also if i am not mistaken you need to make sure the door speakers are 16cm so the grills fit back on and will not whit 16.5cm ones ?

for head units i would go for alpine only

what about a compact under seat sub for the bass ?

iv never ever had a head unit of any brand but alpine in the 12 years iv been driving, they are the best and solid as f**k...simple as that..

can get the grills to fit the larger speakers too but u need to modify them
