lol welcome to the forum :afro:

as for your problem.....not entirely sure.  I know that sometimes you have to swap a couple of wire around to enable aftermarket H/U's to work  :undecided:

at first i thought you'd blown a fuse but then you said everything works when you re-fitted the standard H/U :undecided:

I had to swap two cables around to get my HU to power down when I took the key out. I didnt cause the problems that you have said tho. I also cant for the life of me remember which cables I had to swap. All in all I have been no help really lol.

It does sound REALLY werid what you have said, never heard of an aftermarket HU messing about with your locking and things like that. I can only assume that your 100% sure you plugged everything in proberly and in the right sockets.

I got the same problem, bought a '98 mk4 golf gti , central locking didnt work with the key fob. I bought a new cd player for it and when i took the old one out the central locking worked, put the old one back in it stopped working. Now i cant get any cd players working in it! Checked fuses, all fine! The cd player will take in cd's and eject them just wont light up or switch on!
Lane discipline:

You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past.

What's happened is that you've shorted out the K-bus, or K wire as I think VW refer to it.  It's basically a communication line between body control units - if you short it to earth or live, you won't get any communication on it - hence the locking fault.  It won't do any permanent damage. The factory headunits are connected to this line.

Find the wire , disconnect and insulate it from the stereo loom.
