ABS warning light tomfoolery!
« on: 26 July 2007, 21:42 »
Hello again think tank!......Had trouble with my abs light coming on when i bought my car a couple of months ago but seemed to cure itself and went out and has stayed out....until this morning when the b*stard has come back on again.Plan to manually check the sensors with a multi-meter this weekend but in the mean time just had a question? When i turn on the ignition and start the car the ABS light comes on and then as usual goes out after a couple of seconds and stays out until i get to around about 15-20mph when it comes on, does this mean it is definately a wheel sensor? or could it be the deadly expensive pump? Would have thought pump fault would make light stay on all the time?.....any advice as always is greatly appreciated cheers!

Nope a pump fualt can cause the ABS light to come on intermitantly, i had this with mine but in the end had to change the pump and a rear sensor-that sorted it once and for all God willing. Cost me £160 for a second hand pump supply+fitting at Midland VW.

Could be worth getting the codes read and erased.... as any old codes will be stored until either the ecu is reset or the codes cleared.

Can you reset the ABS ECU in the same way as the engine ECU by disconnecting the battery?
