Awesome APR remap
« on: 26 July 2007, 11:45 »
having collected my car on tuesday and driving it back to manchester from milton keynes, i took it straight there and they put the 6 hr trial in the car...

some difference!!

however, it was damp and the car spins up real easy, even dry there is now an element of torque steer, the car in standard form is pretty quick to say the least, so should i map it permanent? or just add a good exhaust to the standard car....

its booked in for next wednesday so your thoughts are apprectiated.

thanks

Jt

Might get a bit tiresome if you had it full time, maybe something a little more user friendly.

The standard GTI after being remapped by Awesome GTI is about the same (speed wise) as the ED30. I should know as I went up against their demo model at GTI International. Their best 0-60 was exactly the same as mine(5.66 secs) and in the standing 1/4 mile there was only 7 hundredths of a second in it. Not bad consideing the Awesome GTI car has all the bells and whistles fitted and mine is standard

I can live with mine easily in the wet, damp or dry, so if you like it, go for it.

There are other remap specialists out there, but I'm assuming you are close to Awesome and it will be easier for you...yes? You could also think about Superchips Bluefin as that is reversible and can be done over the internet without the need for you to go to a supplier. A word of caution though. The diverter valve is a weak link and easily blows and so some have opted for a forge DV upgrade at around £150.

Hope this helps.

I've had APR remap both stage 1 and 2, and its one of the most proggresive maps you can get, currently running stage 2 with a few other mods and making  262bhp and 330ft/lbs and its still really driveable. The traction control sorts everything out in the wet and in the dry it really is a quick car and I've shocked quite a few of the more desirable sports cars particularly on the motorway where the torque really counts, Awesome have done most of the work on my last few cars and I can't recommend them enough.

Might get a bit tiresome if you had it full time, maybe something a little more user friendly.

It's worth remembering, the throttle isn't a switch and allows infinite degrees of progress.

If the car's torque steering or spinning it's wheels when wet, then you may have to use a little less throttle until you're rolling at a quick enough pace for it not to happen. Denying yourself more power seems a little daft if the OP just needs to re-calibrate his throttle modulation...

I'm using eibach dampers and springs and eibach anti-roll bars front and rear, I tried koni FSD's but found them to be to much of a compromise, I wanted a sporty ride with handling improvements.
I have never had a problem with torque steer either
