after a good look round this morning things are better than i thought.
needs a bloody good polish

obvious things that need sorting.

mechanical
worn ball and socket on the gear lever.
clutch pedal stopper is missing so the clutch has a foot of free play before it bites.
needs a good service and cautionary cambelt change.

interior
new gaiter for the gearstick
few trim clips missing for the door panels
no ice in it what so ever !
sunroof motor missing. (temp fix with manual winder)
non tilting passenger seat
air con not charged (or broken?)
however the drivers bolster and all the cloth on the seats is A1 and the headlining is mint-not a mark

body
bonnet is FUBAR- this pic doesn't do justice to all the cracked paint there is!

small rust spots on the lower drivers door and rear panel.

light keying mark all down the passenger side

plans once most of the above is done
remove all but the rear VW badge
layflat wiper
smoked rear,side and front indicators
-40mm
badgeless grille
remove black window surround and door trim stickers
swap red bumper piping for black
15" bbs ra's

it came with a pile of old bills, mot's ,tax discs etc and has had a lot of TLC over the years.

oh and a magnex SS backbox which is nice and suprisingly quiet.

went to the scrappy this morning for a few odds and sods

parcel shelf support and dash surround were the main things i went for but lucky for me the only mk2 they had was a 16v so i had the sunroof winder as a temp solution to my missing motor problem.
had a few clips and the iso connecters for the stereo as mine has the usual 18yr old car chopped wires.
I paid for everything - theft is a crime.......and there was a bloke who works there hanging about.

also got the under bonnet insulation but i'm not allowed to bring that in and clean it in the bath. stupid girlfriend

how dirty!

after a quick shower and a bit of shower gel on the carpet bit the parcel shelf support is now cleaner than me!

also got some new pedal rubbers- boring , i know.

well they're all done.

i was a bit worried the suroof motor was missing as a cover up for the sunroof  being jammed but no, fitted the manual winder and back it went.
it was a bit stiff but apparently its been shut for over 3 years.
sprayed plenty of WD40 down the runners then greased all the moving parts and runners with copper grease.  spot on , now  all we need is some sun.

pedal rubbers were a right barsteward to fit. probably easier if you warm them up a bit with a hairdryer.

also laid the rear wiper flat. easy

managed to get the major part of the boot done today.

started peeling the sticker back yesterday but it started raining so had to stop.

got it all off but was left with the dreaded sticky residue.

once i'd got all that crap off ,using white spirit a terry t towel and a hell of a lot of elbow grease i gave it a t cutting.

then just put the spoiler back on and the lay flat wiper. job done.

now i just need to spray the wiper arm up , sort a few stone chips ,colour code the number plate plinth and get new plates.

did a bit more work on the boot lid today.

thought i'd try and sort some rusty stone chip type spots.

1. nasty rust spot
2. scrape away all the loose paint and rust with the tip of a stanley knife. you need a steady hand.
3. paint on some kurust
4. with a fine artist paint brush fill in the chip with anti oxidising paint.

now all i have to do is find a decent tornado red paint match. Halfords are worse than usless. the tornado red they had looked more like tornado burgundy. I'm not sure how succsesful this is going to be but we'll see.  :undecided:

also t-cutted a bit of the roof to see what the paint could look like. I'll try to do the rest of the car tomorrow and hopefully also fit the bonnet i won on ebay.

off to meet Neaty now to get a set of BBS RA's.

EDIT : got 'em , cheers Paul.

had 2 toyo proxes fitted this morning and had the tracking sorted.

+7 degrees out
he said the most he'd seen was +8. no wonder the steering felt heavier turning right.

handles like a dream now.

also t-cutted the roof and peeled the stickers off the sides. no pics yet. sorry.
