I was told that if you hold the ESP button down for a few seconds it disengages completely i.e. there are 2 stages, the first only turns it off partially. Doesn't seem to work on mine (TDI150 03 reg) Has anyone else heard this?

I've never heard of that, the button should be a toggle eg if its on you have no light on the instrument panel, if its off the light is lit constantly.

On mine you press it and it goes off. Press it again and it comes back on.

Thats fair enough but if you are being an arse and the car is being dogged and driven poorly it will switch its self back on with you putting it on... i think thats what the original post means however i am not sure if it goes off compleatly.... crack on.... :laugh:

if that is the case sort of defeats the point of having an off switch doesn't it.

it does and more annoyingly means it's like the system on Mercs which is never fully disabled  :sad:

What kind of a world are we living in where OFF doesn't mean OFF!!??  :laugh:

it monitors your speed, steering angle, etc and if it thinks you're going to fast will back off the power, apply the brakes etc.

basically it will try and help stop you getting into difficulty but it won't prevent a crash

Ridge gave a pretty good explanation a few weeks back; have a search through the main board and have a look
