think so, it's due a service in about 1500 miles. Was just going to top up beforehand.

oil and oil filter are part of the service, so if you do buy some, only top it up otherwise you're wasting money.

Cheers. Will do . Will let you know whether the noise is actually normal or me just being paranoid! Only had the car 3 days after driving a 1.8T for 2 years so maybe it's just a case of getting used to it.

Mine has just recently developed a similartapping noise on acceleration.  Can only hear it with the window down, but it does worry me.

I've checked the oil and it all seems fine.  The only thing I can think of is that it went for a service last month to a garage I don't know...I hope they've put the right oil in!  What would be the effect of using cheap/low grade oil?

If its a deep noise when putting your toe down lol. It could be your intercooler pipe comming off a bit.

My mate has the fr tdi 130 ibiza and his intercooler pipe has come off twice. Seat said the turbo is over powering or somthing.

Diesel power all the way

ah you might have hit the nail on the head there. The intercooler pipe has worked itself loose before, but the effect was much more dramatic (no power and loads of smoke).
I'll check it out, cheers.

if the pipe does come off then you'll have no power above 2000, really bad economy and loads of smoke

you do get cases where the pipe is partly out at which point, you'll get some smoke and some loss of power

OH NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems my problem was due to the wrong grade of oil being used at my last service!  And I thought I was being paranoid.  I wont name the garage....yet.  I'll give them a chance to admit the mistake they've made and put it right (i.e. reimburse me for the repairs to be done by someone who knows what they're doing and the cost of a hire car).
The repair bill is going to be in the region of £1500 and I'll be spending another £100 on a hire car!

I gave up with VAG-COM in the end, got no error codes and I'm not good enough to use the measuring blocks and scope properly yet.  (Any one got any info on this btw)

I found a small local VW specialist, who seems to 1: know his sh!t and 2: actually give a sh!t.  So i'll be going to him from now on, all going well.
