Thats not the right grommet in your picture under the scuttle. There is another to the left between the black airvent and the ECU box, roughly inline with the battery. You have to get down low and look up into the space under the scuttle to see it. A round black thing the size of a 10p

I used some twin and earth electrical cable as a draw wire (ie stiff cable), pushed through the hole and it appeared in the passenger foot well without taking the glove box out.

BTW the two plastic things that hold the foam trim to the underside of the passenger dash unscrew (cos I snapped one off whoops!)

The other mistake I made was the grommet disappeared behind the dash, hence the tape at the moment.

Sorry to seem stupid - but I cant figure out where you mean!  I was looking under my bonnet just now and cant see anything that looks like your pic.  Is this with the battery out?  Is the 'scuttle' the bit of plastic under the wipers that I was prizing up to take my pic?

OK... I've just been out for another look - and I can see the 10p size grommet.

My next question is - how the hell do you get in about to it to push a cable through?!?!

I basically pushed the grommet through to the inside of the car where it disappeared never to be seen again. But I am sure careful use of a small screwdriver could lever it out for safe keeping.

On the other side of it is a layer of sound insulation, but there is a ready made slit in it so to speak that you can push the wire through. As I mentioned you definitely need some stiff cable to use as a draw wire.

Did you take the whole scuttle panel off to get in about - or did you just do it from a distance?
I wouldnt consider my hands big - but theres no way I could get them in there!

I was thinking about attaching my wire to a coathanger and pushing it through?  Is there anything else in the hole that I'd risk damaging using this?

thats like 8mm thick, I said cable not rod  :laugh:

@p3eps

I took the rubber seal off so the front of the scuttle panel lifts up, and attacking it from the passenger side wing I could certainly get my left arm in under there.

I think you need something more flexible than a coathanger as it has to start heading downwards once though into the car and there is alot of aircon cabling under there which could be easily damaged with such a thing. As I said some twin and earth cable is what I had to hand and seemed to be the right balance of stiffness and flexibility. Unfortunately the mass of plastic aircon bits means it has to make it to the bottom as you cannot get an arm up the inside to grab it.
