Car cuts out at high speeds.
« on: 08 July 2007, 18:23 »
Right a couple problems with my golf have arisen over last week or so. Firstly when i was on the motorway and was doing around 70mph the car cut out on me a few times but then started again i can only assume this was because it was almost like a rolling start but at 70mph. So any ideas on what is causing this? it doesnt seem to do it at lower speeds etc.

Secondly there looks like a little oil coming out by the 3rd spark plug could this be related?

Cheers.

Was it wet/raining on the motorway by any chance?

If so, change the leads and dizzy cap. My dad had that problem on his and they cured it.

Could be fuel starvation, try replacing your fuel filter...

If you wiggle the key in the ignition does it sometimes turn off ? If so it could be a worn ignition barrel, as there's a white contact plug at the end that can wear out, or at least that's what I had on my mk1 cab when it cut out on me while driving.
......now officially dubless.

does ur car have an aftermarket immobaliser because this is the problem iv had with mine the immobaliser is not working properly so cuts the car off then it starts again, if u do have an aftermarket immobaliser and u dont know when and who fitted it i would remove it or get it replaced!!
