R32

Just raced an R32 here in Gib, i am very impressed by both cars perfomance. I over took the golf on the runway, i guess he unexpected it then later on, on another straight he over took me i didnt expect it, so i just had to knock down a gear and chase him. (I love the sound of the R32's Exhaust!!!) I was very very impressed that i had been able to catch up with him just before we entered a round about. Then we had to go up a hill which he just embarresed me to bits lol. It was as if he shot up the hill and i guess he had the advanted of the 4WD. The hill had one major curve which he just flew through and i had to brake quite a bit. I knocked down a gear to try and catch up then i messed up again! Instead of going from second to third, i went from second to fifth and it just sounded  I am really really convinced that an R32 should be my next car. I have found some one whos very interested in my car and is willing to pay £15,000 ( I Bought it for 16,500 three months ago) I was plannin on upgrading to a full spec GTI but a 5 Door and not 3. Would it be worth investing that extra bit of cash and get myself an R32? Comments please as i really need help deciding!

I think its gonna be a bit hard to try and get an E30 in Gib. I think they will also attempt to sell me any GTI or R32 first as they are just in the garage collecting dust lol. But wel see, il make a trip to the dealers tomorrow to enquire i guess...Any other comments and stuff, maybe some one here as driven/owned both cars and give me the pros and cons

I have owned all 3 - standard GTI, Ed30 and a Mk5 R32.  The R32 is much better than the standard GTI IMHO and brought a bigger smile to my face than the Ed30 did. It sounds awesome and I've spent the past few nights just looking at photos of Mk5 R32s on the net, reading about them and wishing I still had mine.  Saying that, I have an Edition 30 on order again for October but I plan to have both on my drive as I will probably get a 2nd hand Mk5 R32 next year in the spring - and keep the Ed 30.

two completely different cars, IMHO, two different approaches to hot hatch.

If you need 4x4 - get R32. Remember, though, it costs more to run it.

If you can afford it, get the R32, I did a don't regret it for a minuet, forget all the talk of this one's quicker here, and that one's quicker there, in the real world of driving they are so close, but the R32 is a car that just feels so good, sounds good, and there aren’t so many about.

Listen to Illyun, here's a bloke who tried them all, and he still look's back to his R32 with fondness.

There isn't much difference TBH, I regularly get 30 MPG road tax is nasty, but he lives in Gib , so i don't know that applies.

Exaample on 10,000 mile per year

30 MPG from the R32
34 from a GTi

38 gallons difference
£169 a year, £3.25 per week.
