« on: 14 February 2004, 16:09 »
hello peeps, ive got a GT TDI 115bhp and was just wandering whether i could easily reprogramme the engine chip to produce 130/150 bhp? is that the only difference between faster diesels? And if that the case, how much approx? CHEERS!
TDI = economy and FAST!!

so its more power that your after?
good lad
anyway.the 115tdi is abit different to the 130 and 150 tdi.
the clutch is weaker and can cause trouble when you chip it.
you can chip a 115 to give you more power,my 130 is chipped to over 170bhp and 300lbs of torque.so its possible.

i don't think the 115bhp version is a PD (need someone to help me out here)

in which case you can't get one of those boxes to plug in and give you more power. the only viable option is to go for a rechip and even then I don't think you would get 130bhp.

i think the clutch would be okay at 130bhp, might need to think about it at 150bhp (i personally thought allt he clutches ont eh diesels were the same but obviously not). its the driveshafts i would worry about.

Hello mate, you wanna try changing the Injectors, try and get some injectors of a 150 bhp model. It might make a difference and obviously the more bhp the bigger the injectors. Cheap and cheerfull!!  :)

injectors, Cheap!

only the medical ones i'm afraid, changing the injectors on your 115 will do absoloutley jack sh!t, in fact you may as well take your spare wheel out as that will see more gains than changing the injectors.

See its all about the controlling of the injectors, so this means you need a tuning box or chip, i would personally go for the box as i have one and you can also take it off if necessary.

If you are looking o get sh!t tones of power out of your car then, ring autotrader and say can you list my car, then sell it and then buy a bigger diesel, eg 130 or 150 if you can push it, or even a ptrol turbo.  there is never any point in throwing thousands at a car when it can be acheived by just buyig a new one.

THe difference between the PD engines is'nt just the ECU.the 150 has a bigger turbo, a strengthened crank.  The 130 is different to the 115 but not sure the exact spec change, but speakk to a through people at the companies like AMD, Van-aaken and Jabba sport etc etc.  Read the links on here and then make yuor decsion,  But if you ask me, with the influx of mobile speed cameras in my area , i am thinking of getting a Sinclair C5 as it is a sheer miracle that i have not been done for speeding yet, i might downgrade my car to the SDi normaly aspirated diesel to aoid fines.

Do not under estimate the issue of clutch slip which is a real problem with many of the chipped MKIV's. With the weaker clutch on your model you may also want to consider a tuning box from a company like Van Aaken or Oettinger. These are very good quality and German TUV approved which means that the resulting torque figure should be within the tolerances of your clutch. With a diesel don't worry about bhp as its the torque figure that is the real measure of performance.

We are talking diesel here so I stand by my comment about torque.
