dual voice coil

hi sorry for all the questions but im trying to think of the best solution anyway, if i have a dual voice coil sub and a 2 chanal amp can i wire 1 voice coil to 1 chanal and the other voice coil to the other chanal on the amp?

not really, what amp is it? and what sub? 

post links and ill explain the way to set it up, if you can. try to find exact links if you can, if not then ate least exact names + model numbers ( the numbers should be somewhere on them)

you may need another amp really to use that sub. it depends mostly on the amp. its quiet possible you wont need anything new if you have a good quality amp.

If your amplifier is 2 ohm stable, then you can power both voice coils using the bridged output, using a 2 Ohms impedence to 'cheat' the power from your amplifier. As Tommycab says, we'd need to know the amplifier brand and model to ensure it's capable of doing this. Anything from a decent manufacturer in the last 5 years or so should be 2 ohm stable (stable, not just capable). Anything from a budget manufacturer (the 8000 watt specials for £69, that type of thing) isn't likely to be able to do it....

have you sorted out your switching off problem yet? and the alpine subs? are they the DCV ones or do you have two systems in the making?!

the sub is alpine type r 15 and the amp is a kenwood kac ps811d bass junkies still do them. fanx ian

Ok, the Kenwood KAC PS811D is quite happy working at 2 Ohms impedence, which means you can power both voice coils from a single channel (bridged) output. This will liberate some real power from your amp, as well as drive your sub as Mr Alpine intended....

if, like your other post says though you have two DVC subs your going to need another amp.

ive just ordered another kenwood kac ps811d so i will have 2xalpine type r 15inch subs and to kenwood kac ps 811d amps. but i dont think it will be loud enough

You don't need another amp - the Kenwood will run at 1 Ohm

So you can run two 4 ohm dual voice coil subs off of it quite easily:



Not loud enough? You're having a laugh mate, that should sound pretty damn impressive....
