MK VI GTI
« on: 11 June 2007, 21:46 »
Just read an Auto Express article on the forthcoming MK VI GTI.

For what it's worth, and from memory only (!), the new car will be due in the UK in Autumn 2008 and will feature a revised corporate grille with two horizontal bars in it. It will be a streamlined update of the existing body, which doesn't look that different to be honest if the images are to be believed, featuring the same high waistline and C pillar look. The car is to be introduced earlier in the Golf evolution cycle because the new model will not be so complicated to build.

To reduce production costs, the suspension will feature a simpler multilink system which will also reduce build time. The DSG wil feature a new 7 speed ratio box

The R32 will retain the 3.2 engine and not the 3.6 which is coming in the Passat .

We'll have to wait and see then

I wonder whether you will be able to upgrade to the new DSG box for a Mk5 GTI?

The new 7 speed DSG apparently is for the lower output petrol and TDI engines, and is more suited for economy. I think I read that it has a lower torque limit than the current version, with different clutches too

....Every reason NOT to have the 7-speed box on a Mk5 imo.

the new 7 speed dsg gearbox is, as far as i know, lighter than the current one because the gearbox uses a dry clutch system as opposed to the wet clutch system present in current dsg gearboxes.  i'm pretty sure they will introduce a 7 speed gearbox with higher torque limits, for the performance range.

I doubt that the GTI version will come out at the same time as the rest of the range. VW deliberately made us all wait for the MKV version and will probably do the same with the MKVI. I agree that it will probably have the ED30 engine and maybe by then an uprated version of the 7speed DSG. What it will be is a "cheaper to make" car, whether it will affect quality is open to debate :undecided:
