Autocar a couple of weeks ago ran a test - DSG vs Manual.  They concluded that the manual was faster and pulled harder from stand still - this was after numerous runs apparently.  Maybe they had a dodgy DSG?! 

Both cars are 5 stars so pay ur money and take ur choice.

I bet they weren't using the infamous launch control, if you go to you tube and put in golf dsg v manual, there's a comprehensive test where the DSG out performs the manual in every aspect but only because they use this launch control thingy? Either way both dsg or manual, the car is a true GTI!!!

Thats what i'm suspecting... otherwise i'll change my Edition 30 order back to manual asap.

Launch control is apparently not enabled on all cars. Also, what does it do to the clutch?

erh, launch control is only for DSG GTI and R32, and also it doesnt have a clutch, so nothing to worry about!

Right, actually it has 2 clutches.

And even on some GTIs the launch control is disengaged, I've read about this on other forums.

I am not an engineer, but I think using launch control all the time does not do your car good. I believe I've read something like this, it was discussion of dsg in audi.

And yes, I know launch control only applies to DSG, Phil.

 and i know you say your not an engineer, and the clutches in the dsg are not of the same type and operating method as a standard Gearbox to flywheel cupler. sorry if thats makes me no longer look the idiot

Why would I want to make you look like an idiot? 

What I'm saying is that I think LC is not healthy for your car. If there was a golf with DSG, run-in by the book etc but I knew the owner was a keen LC user, I would not buy the car, would you?

Found this clip, i thought the R32 DSG was quicker then GTI DSG, Both cars standard spec, GTi's faster to 60!!, incase you dont realise, red car is the GTi!

What we need are some willing volunteers who are going to the GTI International show to go down the quarter mile and post their times on here. Sort of an official GolfGTI.co.uk reference to 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Both standard and modified versions of GTI, TDI, ED30, R32, FSI etc.
