Ipod dock in armrest / controlling from radio
« on: 31 May 2007, 13:35 »
HI all

Just picked up my new Gti and i have the factory fitted ipod dock in the centre armrest.  I am able to play the ipod tunes via the radio controls by selecting CD 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 (not CD 5) though i am yet to find any logic in why some songs are CD1, some CD2 etc etc.

I assumed that the ipod menu would effectively be replicated on the radio display, ie name of song etc, and would also be able to access songs via playlists, artists, albums etc, exactly as i would do normally directly on the ipod.

However this appears to not work.  Am i just missing some sort of set up settings?

Grateful for any/all advice, help etc!

Thanks one and all

OH NO!

If you had only just looked at some of the threads knocking about then you would have realised that the IPOD prep for the golf is pants

You can set upto 5 playlists on your IPOD for the VW head unit to play (CD1-CD5) and then CD6 is the compilation of the other 5 playlists.
The only control you have is to change playlist, go back or forward through the playlist and control the volume. That is it!
The head unit doesn't show track ID's, albums, genre or anything like that, and there is no chance of you seeing any album artwork.
I was so p!ssed off at the IPOD prep that I went out and bought an aftermarket headunit and had the new lead fed through the armrest so it still looks OEM.
Once again it is poor design and implementation from VW to scr3w unsuspecting buyers like ourselves into parting with more money for something that doesn't work like it should do.

oh

well that's that then i guess...!

Thanks for the reply, at least i know i'm not missing something!  I'm not too bothered to be honest - i'm not a massive music fan or anything like that, i just like my ipod and its songs and would have enjoyed the ipod functionality.  i'll cope with the randomness of it all... makes things more interetsing i guess!?

Cheers... back to running in the car...!
