I aint talking about the finish, I'm talking about the fact they are alloy and made by VW.  yes 18" have a different machined look as you say, but the actual 'quality' has nothing to do with it, its personal preference I guess. fully painted vs machined and two tone paint. they are still alloy underneath.

Monzas cant be refurbed so I have been informed.

i got my 17" monza's refurbed about 4 weeks ago for £230. Cant fault it. Alloys look brand spanking new.
Its better than spanding over a £1,000 for a set of 4 new ones thats for sure!

And even if you did get a set of new ones, how long before they get kerbed (which will happen eventually).

Erhh no 2007GTI, take a close look at a set on monza II's, they have 2 different colours, dont have the machined look at all, and a dam site cheaper. THEY ARE NO WAY THE SAME BUT ONLY SMALLER!!   anyone else wanna back me up here??

I always thought that other than being two-tone they were exactly the same........
I've seen both and i have to say i only noticed the two-tone difference, nothing else. But you have to be standing close to the alloys to notice that aswell. from a distance there is no real difference other than the two-tones look slightly darker (darker grey).

The 17" Monzas are a conventional cast aluminium alloy wheel, and merely painted in a bog standard silver metalic paint.

The 18" Monza IIs look visually similar, however, they are constructed very differently.  I think they are forged (much stronger than casting), and also have Silicon and Magnesium mixed in the alloy.  They also have a "hollow rim" construction, to reduce gyroscopic forces.  The obvious visible difference is the anthracite grey paint on the inner surfaces, the diamond cut outer face, and the clear laquer coating.  :nerd:

Oh, and neither rim is made by VW, they are both made for VW, by BBS.

Yup, BBS RD305, for the full style number.  Oh, and a slight correction - they don't have any magnesium, but they do have silcon in the alloy.
