Hi Brando,
GTI everytime...although I'm biased as you can see in my sig

Seriously though, I would pit my ED30 anytime against a MKV R32 (in the dry anyway...and probably even when "mildly Moist") Why, well, at the expense of getting shot at by R32 owners:-
R32 has good all weather grip and an amazing soundtrack, but is a good 200+kg heavier than the ED30. It has a bigger thirst than the Ed30, it will shortly cost you £400 a year to tax and is slower than an Ed30 over a standing quarter AND through the gears where it matters. The ED 30 is also more "exclusive" if you like that kind of thing. The R32 doesn't feel as nimble as the ED30 and IMO is therefore not as exciting to drive "enthusiastically". An R32 is rated by VW as 250PS which equates to 247BHP although it has been shown that some have less than this and none actually have more (awaiting to be proved wrong), wheras the ED30 is rated at 230ps/227bhp, but has been shown to produce more in the region of 240+bhp (see superchips standard figures at 244bhp)

Oh, the R32 does come in blue and doesn't has a pimply gearknob...sorry to steal your quote Phil
