Sounds like you're looking at either a Mk3 GTI or a Mk4 1.4, albeit an early one...

OK, I'll translate, there's missing commas and granted it's not grammatically (sp? lol) correct so that's why you're all getting confused......

....They're off away for two weeks taking in RTTS, when they get back they will be car hunting. His wife wants a 1.4 Golf that looks wicked, but he wants a GTI. Either of these options have to be a 5 door, so for 2.5 - 3k, what can he expect.

Personally, I'd go for a nice 5 door mk3 GTI, as already said you should get a quality one for that money, I wouldn't bother with a 1.4 mk4, that will be slooooooooooooooooooooowwwwww.

5 doors are more plentiful than 3 door!

He should find a good late model with all the toys for 2.5k max.

^^ I know over all they are, but I didn't think there were many 5door GTi's about? Might have been wrong on that one though - I tend not to notice 5 doors as much!
