Odd problem!

So I was driving along the M62 yesterday evening, when I noticed a strange occurence - the revs would wobble, and dip (only on the gauge not in reality), come straight back up and then the coolant light would flash a few times.

I wonder if it's just something to do with the instrument cluster or some odd wiring thing, becuase as I say, the revs didn't actually drop and the coolant level is fine 

Oh this is on my 8v digi by the way, and other than this it is running absolutely fine

It could be that the clocks are not properly earthed or a first sign that your clocks are on the slippery slope

My old mk2 had this problem when I had the engine upgraded, found the cause on mine to be the earth lead that connects to the cam cover was loose, The revs dropped when I turned the lights on too 

Check your earth leads

ps. If you see a Dark Blue V-reg Mk4 GTI fully colour coded around Liverpool/Wavertree give us a wave, I'm a Formby boy but work in Wavertree

Oh I'm quite often near there to go to the big asda on smithdown road lol - look out for my red 8v!! 

Thanks for the info and pic, very helpful, I'm hoping it is a bad earth now as I really don't want to change the clocks!

It could well be though - my boyfriend fixed a broken wire thing (something to do with the idling) the other week and also I changed the plugs/leads/air filter etc the other day, so it may well have been knocked.

A dappy rev counter is also a sign that your hall sender in the dizzy is about to die! Best you souce a replacment dizzy just in case
