Scanned and yes it is the crank sensor!

Which is really annoying as it has to be changed to a different type to run with the new ECU!
But cant use the alternative one with the current ecu!

This has been the story all the way through this! One step forward two steps back!

Crank sensor fault will come up if the engine not running?

Yes it did.

Mate cleared the fault and told me to try and start the engine, which it didnt and the fault was back straight away

I just had a really nasty thought!

What if the diesel crank didn't have the timing cog!!! 

Scanned through this thread and no pics! I have been very slack on that front!

Cant open photobucket here at work so was panicking! Then I checked my fone.

Just waiting for a new crank sensor to arrive.
have taken to old one out, engine propped up so ready for new one to go straight in!

Well new crank sensor arrived and has been fitted.

NO CHANGE!!!!

Checked photos I have and the cranks look the same with regard to the timing cog that the sensor picks up signal from.

Wiring??

Well the crank sensor is getting power! Cant check if its showing a signal though!

Looks like my worst fears are correct!

Gonna have a chat to a few people and see what they say and possibly take the sumps off at the weekend and have a look

Does the rev counter go up when you crank?
