just carried out the 256 brake conversion for my 8v. everythibg went well and took over just 2 hours! the only problem is, the pedal feels spongy. like my old set up did before fitting the upgraded 22mm master cylinder. now iv bled the system twice (FULL BLEED), but still have the same problem.the onlt thing i can say, is that i used the pre-used disks and pads.they still have life in them, but are pretty worn,would this cause the problem? I recently changed the disks/pads on my 16v and after bleeding the system the pedal feels a bit spongey - I suspect I have damaged the master cylinder by pumping the pedal too far down.  Maybe a similar thing has happened to you?

have you got the goodridge braided hoses they stop alot of spongyness  :wink:

iv used the easy bleed kit so never touched the pedal. also i experienced no spongeyness before, so shouldnt really need to use the goodridges.paul

Used pads shouldn't make a difference, did you clamp the rear bias valve when bleeding? I'm not sure if it effects the fronts but i know not clamping it gives problems bleeding the rears.

yes clamped it.i consider myself to be a brake bleeding expert!

as i thought.new pads and disks fixed the problem! they more worn than i originally thought.

can really reccommend this conversion lads and ladies.took an hour tops each side to change everything over, hubs etc, 

brembo disks and pagid fr pads from gsf £55
hubs and calipers from breakers £60
new bearings pressed in £40

braking is more than enough for a std 8v

gave the disks a good clean and they worked out the box

job done!

Half done this already but have now fitted a 22mm master cylinder and will have mk4 calipers on the rear along with goodridge hoses all round, not felt the difference much with only the larger front discs and calipers yet but hope the other bits i'm currently doing will improve everything :smiley:
