Heater Control Lights
« on: 13 May 2007, 12:14 »
Hi all. I need some advice in replacing the bulb(s) that light the heater control panel, I've done a search but the results give conflicting information, neither of which seem to apply. Mine is a late 97 model. I've taken the central knob cover off (the knob won't come off) 'to reveal a bulb cover' as suggested, but it doesn't. Ive taken the ashtray out and undone the two screws and then removed all the knobs 'to reveal six other screws' (but there aren't any). Can anyone tell me the proper way to get to the bulb to replace it? Thanks

PS The heated rear window button warning light has also given up, is this fixable or do I need a new switch? Ta!

Right then, just done this to mine this morning, although its a 95 model, I guess they are the same or at least v similar...

There should be 6 screws in total holding the control fascia on, 2 behind the ashtray, and 4 behind the control fascia cover.

Remove all the screws then remove the lower section of the fascia (the one with the heated rear screen switch in)

You can then tease the control mechanism out of the dash to reveal a white shroud type thing around the centre knob. I had to tip the mechanism to the side then out through the gap.

WARNING - the control mechanism will only come out a little way, dont force it, you'll break something!
It will come out enough to get access to the white shroud, and therefore the bulb within it.

Unplug the wiring connector from the back of the white shroud, and pop the shroud off from the mechanism. You should then see a green plastic bit with the bulb inside it. You have to remove the green bit, then the bulb will pull out.
Its a 12V 1.2W bulb BTW

Thanks for that, spot on!  No need to remove the knobs at all, didn't realise that the fascia unclipped. All screws found and got to the bulb OK, damn fiddley though. Will leave it all dangling and get a spare from the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks again J

Hmm, I try to avoid Hal***ds bulbs, they never seem to last more than six months, if that....! They do Bosch as well which I normally get but not in the very small sizes,  I don't fancy taking that lot out again, hopefully a dealer bulb will last another 10yrs

My heater controls aren't very readable at night, though there is a light on... is that normal?
