Problems with headunit

Hi Guys

Have just fitted different headunit to my golf MK3 the problem is it doesn't turn off when you turn the ignition off i brought the connector block from Halfords (i know first mistake) but i have to press and hold the power button to turn the damn thing off. I want to fit my sub 6 x 9's and my two amps in there but can't as there is going to be constant power to the amp when the car is turned off and dont want a flat battery every time i get i it. The old headunit and connector block worked fine. Tried putting that back in the other day to see what happened and nothing. I just wana get my ICE into the boot its been sat there long enough! Any ideas?  :huh: :huh: :huh:  :undecided:

iv had this problem many times. some one during the course of its life has prob tryed re-wireing it.it could b the remote wire or its not wired to the ignition but strait to the battery. in witch case ul have to take out the glovebox, and locate the missing (cut) wire. hope this helps  :grin:

have you tried swapping the red and yellow wires around?

if that doesnt work I would personally just stick to turning it off myself, or with it this way it  always serves as a good reminder to take the faceplate off as this disconnects the circuit the same as actually turning it off! ive set up my own stereo with a permanent live before and never had any issues really.

OK Thanks for your help guys think i might see if i can take the glove box out and have a look at the wiring had a quick look last night and it all looks pretty bodged up behind there think it needs a proper investigation

The amp will only get power when the stereo is switched on, the switched live that the stereo uses to turn the amp on is only live when the stereo is on, the problem with having no ignition live to the stereo wont affect the amps.

Have a look at the connector you bought from Halfords, chances are the the red & yellow wires are joined at 1 end, this eliminates the need for an ignition live but as youve found out this means you have to turn your stereo off OR remove the front panel
