1.4 Mods
« on: 08 May 2007, 20:21 »
Have tried using the search option but it came up with nothing useful (everything that had a 1 or a 4 in the thread was found).
What Mods are available for a 1.4?
The car currently has a Cone filter and alloys but what else is available?
I know the easiest way to go would be a engine transplant but this is the 2nd car and my work and back runabout so not planning on spending shed loads just after a little bit more ooomph.

What engine is it  AEX or the other one??

The AEX is the Multi point injection system Same engine as the Polo and Seat Ibiza. (has the 5 speed box)
The other one ABD or something like that has single point injection and usually a 4 speed box.  you can do much to the engine of either of these.  Cone filter will loose a little torque when hot so actually best off without that but ... hey it sounds good so ....:D

I would say cat back zaust... mabey a header manifold if you want some engine bling and a nice engine sound.   If you want to go mad you could cam it but it wouldn't make much difference really.

Guessing its the AEX as its the 5 speed box, whats the recommended cat back zaust manufacturer?
Would i be better off with an OEM airbox and filter (maybe drill the airbox) if so where can i get one from?Ebay?

Ohh... DONT Drill the air box!!!!  Because they are mounted directly over the engine it will suck in more hot air than a cone filter

My induction kit is made out of a piece of gutter,  part of a ford transit and a pit of pipe from a Bedford rascal . .. but hey! it does the job

I had a full stainless exhaust on my old mk3 (see below) It made a tiny bit of difference but not lots. Think it was one for a 1.6 though as it had to be modded slightly to make it join but was well worth it. whatever people tell you about 1.4 litre mk3's they can be bloody cool (again, see below)

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..
