I presume you've told your insurance company about your mod ? otherwise you are driving around in an uninsured car. Regards, yt.

One thing guys with TDI Golfs might want to do a little research on is an issue that has cropped up on 'chipped'/tuned TDIs. Theres been quite a few mentions of slipping clutches, due to what I believe is 300lbs of torque which the clutch isn't heavy duty enough for. I'm not sure if this is just on PD 150s or 130s too. I def saw mentions of this issue on UK-MKIVs forum. One guy had his car detuned again, awaiting a new software program to reduce the torque, but keep the bhp high.

Thanks for that link franko, thats v interesting.

Ant, any slipping probs on yours? I think the the thread mostly concerned tuned 150's, but just want to know if you've had any probs?

I checked out that link on ebay - that'd be a bargain if I got it at that price, but worried that isn't applicable to my car - can't see how one box can tune the 90, 110, 130 and 150 bhp cars?

Sorry to sound like a spoilt brat, but i could'nt give a monkeys if my car blows up, it's a company car and i don't have to pay if it goes wrong.

Plus red16v, i don't need to worry about the insurance thing, see this is the cool bit, my company is the insurance company, they own 40% of all general insurance companies so i don't need to wory there,

Clutch slipping, news to me, i think 300lb ft torque is a little bit over the top as i was told roughly a 25lbft torque increase, and even on a 150 that would only make 260 max.  Not sure, just think people are trying to look for problems, and hey if we were that worried about costly things going wrong we'd all be driving around in a Golf 1.4 match and keeping to below 2000 revs in case it blew up with the excessive right foot.  If increasing the power by using a box is gonna cause problems i would imagine it would only be on cars later in their lives so we don't need to worry about it yet.

S11EPS ( whats yor name as i feel rude talking to a number plate mate) go for it, its gotta be worth it, warranties are there to be used, if it goes bang take the box off and take it back to VW and ac all blonde with them, "i was driving in the countryside with the bunnies and the pretty lil birdies when my nasty littel engine went puffpuffff bang, can you fix it Mr lovely lil mechanic Man?/""" and thy will never even know you had a tuning box on it and was hrashing the nuts off your car sitting up the arse of an R32 and still acheiving 50MPG.

Still undecided??

I would agree there. If its a company car then you've got nothing to lose, if its your own private car then i would leave alone, especially with the pd 150.

Ant, I am of the same opinion, that if the goes blows up, its a problem, but its somebody elses problem! - thats why I like the idea of a plug in/plug out module, all evidence of modding can be removed in two mins flat!

I'm going to contact the manufacturers of that box on sale on ebay, and see if the tuning box is applicable to all variants of the PD engine like the ad says. If so, I'll take a punt on that.

I've heard this morning that I may be inheriting a two month old 320 sport coupe bimmer, so don't want to spend ?400 on van aaken tuning box if I won't have the car next month!

As for my name, its Simon (but because of surname was always called SHEPS at school) hence the number plate, so don't think you're rude by calling me that, its what everyone calls me!!

Yeah, I'm undecided if its a good thing or not.

It does have more kudos, and I love how rear wheel drive cars handle, but it certainly isn't going to be the rocket sled that the PD is, and no-one lets you out of junctions and stuff, cos they instantly think that all Bimmer drivers are w4nkers!

But, we'll see, its still undecided, it may go to someone that does less miles, as its gonna be v expensive to change that to 40k per annum. There's also a political aspect, in as much that its my dads company, so if I'm the only one with a BMW it may start tongues wagging for the wrong reasons! Bosses boy gets BMW!

Even if I do swap cars, I'll still hang around here (if I'm still welcome!)
