Like many have said before these GTi's are from the same batch.
The way they are prepped by the dealers/supermarket is the real big issue, for some a saving of £4000'ish is worth the risk.

"My" supermarket just registered it and de-waxed the paintwork.

How about this (forgot to mention it) -
You know how things often look slightly better in pictures well in this case they don't, the car was far worse than you can see on the pics.
As for a new car smell, well, you've got no chance. A fusty/mouldy smell yes with spores on the rusty jack. It smelt like an old Ford (no offence to old ford owners :nerd:) plus the manuals had a fusty smell aswell.

Here's a couple of exrta pics, I've also got a close up of the front of the car with the registration plate in full view  :smug:

I think Allbrandsnew and Motorprovider are sister companies

I'm not sure about this. Motordepot and Allbrandsnew have very simimlar web sites and are located very close together in Hull.

You're right acwats. My sincere and grovelling apologies to motorprovider, ive been looking at so many dealers I got mixed up! I should also say that the salesman at Allbrands has been nothing but polite and helpful the entire time, and im certain its not his fault!

Anyway my 3dr DSG with less kit but guranteed feb 2007 build date is ready for collection on Thursday from motorpoint!

I bought a Nissan Almera 1.8 SVE sport from Motorpoint. It was 3 months old and allegedly came from Nissan UK. When it broke down I took it to a Nissan main stealer who told me it was out of it's 3 year warranty !! Seems it was in a field in Cyprus for 3 years.

They gave me my money back, plus paid to put my number plate back on retention and gave me £250 to say sorry. I told them i'd keep the car if they gave me £5k but they didn't go for it. Told me they wanted to take up the isue with Nissan UK !!

So I bought a mk4 GTI instead which is now my wife's daily driver. She wants my mk5 but we're married now so I don't have to chase quite so hard.......

My advice - order new. Accept less spec for you're money if that's a concern and get a brand new car. End of.

for it to corrode in all those pics, i think the cars have been sat near a dockyard next to the sea, salty air will only do that kinda corrosion.

Agreed - that is not from standing in a field in middle England. That is corrosion, not mildew that you may expect from inactivity.

It just begs the question WHY?  why were they unsold for so long? did VW knowingly offload them? or have they been unreg and out of the VW network since build?
I know VW sometimes offloads nearly new cars that have been rejected through the supermarkets, but it makes no sense... I still think they are from the container ship along with BMW motorbikes!

Just got back from my hols, hence late reply.

This is truely shocking, but sadly just one of the very obvious snake-pits to avoid when buying from an importer, or car supermarket.  Unfortunately, even franchised dealers can have access to old stock, though I hope not 2 years old!

A couple of points to mention.  Firstly, someone mentioned contacting VW UK - I personally don't think they will be interested, as this particular car was supplied by an importer, and not an officially franchised dealer.  However, contacting VW Germany would be worthwhile, as they will be able to trace them to the supplying dealer in Europe, and hopefully impose sanctions on the offending dealer.  Afterall, it is tactics like these, of bulk buying, not being able to sell, then letting them rot in a field/docks - which not only devalues the "brand" or model (in terms of poor quality), but it also affects residiual values through oversupply!

Secondly, the OP mentioned the VIN tag.  If you are EVER considering purchasing a "stock" car, be it from an importer, or franchised dealer, always check the 10th digit of the VIN number.  This 10th digit (on all European VINs from all manufacturers) indicates the "model year" build of the car - for example, current 10th digit for new cars should be "7", for 2007.  However, model years do not coincide with calender years, and usually start from the previous July/August time.
