a remap wouldn't 'blow the engine to bits' because they've been tried and tested on other vag cars.

Not all chip tuners have "tried and tested" re-maps!

think of the newest polo gti (130bhp), mk4 golf gti (150 then 180bhp with the anni) and mk1 audi tt 1.8 (220bhp). all have the same 1.8T engine (also found in leon/ibiza cupras too etc), but different maps.

That is complete bollox.  The 225 has completely different, revised internals compared to the 180 in the 1.8 20VT.  The 2 litre FSI turbo also comes with completely different "hardware", dependent on the standard state of tune.

a remap is pretty much undectable - little to no chance of this getting flagged up and voiding your warranty,

Hmm, a remap may be undectectable, on the 'puter - but any experienced stealer techhy will know something is "different" on a test drive!  :smug:

did you get a proper remap?
Well it was Superchips, done by AB Motorsport in Leamington Spa...

Don't let TT see that!!!  :lipsrsealed:

Horses ... and courses, and all that.

I certainly wont have a dig at GTI CV7, but to anyone else thinking of a Super$h!ts/BlueBollox - you have been warned.

Caveat Emptor.  :smug:

50,000 miles in my mk4 on a revo remap (engine now at 106k) and not one problem because of it. We've all heard the horror stories, they're usually a result of bad software or driving like a tw@t, not warming up/cooling down properly etc. You'd be very unlucky to have problems caused by a map from a reputable tuning company.

The golf and TT both share AUM and AUQ engines... (there's others they don't share though)

any techy who admitted to finding something different like that would have to admit to thrashing the sh!t off your car too tho! it's also a decent point but then how would they prove it? no exactly gonna RR your car are they...

the weedy 150 and 180 bhp TT's share the golf/a3 engines.. but the 225 BAM/AMK engines have lower compression pistons and larger wrist pins.

anyone had their 170ps gt tdi remapped yet? looks like i've got to go diesel...

i thought all TTs ran at least 220... that's a little disappointing!

You still havn't grasped the nettle fully!

Again, more bollox.  You don't need to "thrash" a car on a test drive.  Simple part throttle acceleration tests will reveal differences in torque production (which would then indicate differences in potential power, higher up the rev range).  :nerd:  :smug:

If they did have valid suspicions, then they simply download the ECU map on a data stick, and send it back to VW Germany for a detailed analysis - and I strongly guess that VW would know their own maps!

Nope.  On the Mk1 TT, the "poverty spec" 180PS were identified by a single zorst, exiting on the left.  The 225s, along with the 3.2 had twin pipes.

Yep... you can easily spot a 'poor mans' TT by the single pipe at the back

The 150's are also only 2wd.. so thats a golf chassis with a bubble stuck on top then.
