Which suspension kit ?
« on: 05 February 2004, 12:56 »
Im looking to uprate the suspension on my Mark 2 GTD 1990. I am unsure which kit is the best, have previously had a boge/ sachs kit which was good and is only ?170 (but only has a drop of 35/40 mm). would welcome any feedback on any suspension kit they have fitted.

I must say alot of people will steer u in the way of Koni's and Eibach but they can be expensive ... plus the springs aren't matched to the shocks

I've got a damper adjustable SPAX kit - only 40mm drop but that's sensible and u'll not have trouble with exhausts bangin on axles ect if you go potty !!

The kit was just over ?300 new and take it from someone who races and has a automotive degree - other than a ride height / damper kit u can't beat it !

Coilovers are reccomended

I have Supersport goldlines on mine. they are a buget kit but the handling is the best!
ohh and the ride is quite harsh.
You can drop the car to 120mm and your looking at ?350

i'm running Eibach springs & raceland shox, along with eibach arb's

the ride is firm/solid but not at all harsh and it goes round corners like its on rails

Calling all you guys with *firm* suspension etc ...

Anyone have any problems with lift off oversteer when really using the handling to the max ?

Slowly starting to push her more and more and it almost caught me out one day - just wasn't expecting it !!! Normally front wheel drive cars have to be really provoked .... might have to adjust the rear dampers you think ?

its even more apparent when you have a the eibach arb's on

thing is though with the golfs its predictable & controllable, unlike others such as 205gti's where it just snapped and 9 times outta 10 found yourself pointing in the wrong direction!!

I used standard VW bushes - just didn't have the cash for the powerflex stuff and standard ARB's too ...

Both front and rear shocks are adjustable on the car - the fronts are the usual key on the top of the shock, the rears have a head u adjust with a flat head screwdriver on the bottom of the shock. Nothing like other Koni's i've seen where the rears are adjustable, but they have to be removed from the car / compressed / twist to adjust crap !!!

Try these people for the kit http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/

Cheapest anywhere by a long way - 40mm kit is Part no. TAP408

Go for it and enjoy lift off oversteer fun  ;D
