where can these be soured from and how easy are they to fit

last time i looked i didn't think there were any as its cable change

I'm on about the linkage assembly where the gear lever is as my one on my 120000mile mk3 is quite sloppy and having removed the dust cover the small plastic bushes apear to be worn causing the slop and slightly iffy changes.

do you mean the part under the gaitor or the part in the engine bay?

Hi, got mine off ebay, really easy job, takes about an hour, if you jack the car up onto stands its alot easier than trying to do it from the top. Also got myself one of the aligning tools for a fiver from ebay too, well worth it makes the job a load easier, now its silky smooth like new I suppose, I done it on my Mk3 1.6 cabrio and Mk2 Gti, do it it makes a difference lots!!!

I've looked on ebay but havent seen any mk3 specific ones, I have seen the alignment plate though

I've just got the bits orderd from my local vw dealer, I went to german and swedish but they couldnt source the bits.

I'll post up some pics when I strip and rebuild the linkage

I would be intrested in your efforts,i have picked a 16v up today and the gear change is limp to say the least.Out of intrest how much did the bits cost?

about £10  for the lot, I think there are 2 difrent types of gear linkages for the 16v, I have the cable type.


if yer not sure unscrew the gear knob and pop the gator cover and surround off whilst at a vw dealer.

if you have the older type ball linkage ( rod rather than cable ) the new part is about £5 from german and swedish or £13 from main dealer, if you have the other type its original vw bits only as far as I can tell
