What is the best way to fit new speakers to a mk3? Its got these crappy connector block things but i'm not sure if i should cut them. Can anyone advise as i need to get rid of the standard paper thin speakers ASAP!!!
Cheers, Tom

I would invest in a pair of wire crimps, cut the blocks off and replace with some new connectors.
That will give you the best connection

I much prefer to use these:

They give a much more secure crimp across the whole of the connector, and you can't over-crimp them.

The standard wiring should be more than adequate - in fact a little overkill compared to some cars, but that's the Germans for you!

yeah i noticed the wiring is overly high quality, nice though. make sure you get the wires the right way round too ( + and - )

pretty much the same, i have just done mine, there will be two connector blocks though as this is where the wiring for the door speakers comes from i think, only one of the connector blocks will power the tweeter, just take it out with some music playing, the one that cuts the tweeter is the one you want to cut and rejoin to your new spks. its kind of harder to figure out the + and - though but you should be able to make out that one of the halves of the connector goes to the tweeter through a capacitor ( looks like a little red tube with soldier joints either end) that side is the + side. hope that makes sense!

Autoleads make Speaker adapter leads if you really dont want 2 cut the blocks off, but If it was me id just chop the blocks off. when you mount the new doorspeaker bear in mind the tweeter up on the dash will still be working, as they are run in parrallell. If your fitting aftermarket coaxils you might not neccisarily want the standard tweeter connected.

id leave it anyway, get a bit of high frequency pointed more at you so the high notes will be clearer, try sticking your head down by your feet with a set of co axes! or try leaning over your parcel shelf if you have 6x9s fitted, the closer and more directed towards you the better. as long as its not overpowering.
