8v very jumpy on warming up????
« on: 17 April 2007, 16:05 »
Hi I hav a 98 MK3 8V with just under 50,000 on the clock, the car is in excellent condtion and get commets on it daily about how good nick it's in, Ive had it about 2 years now and all has been fine up till now(just a few little things like wear and tear, base ignition timing was out when I 1st had it, that was sorted). The car starts fine in all weather but I fined that when it is warming up and I'm driving on the motorway at say 50 to 60mph if I put my foot down a bit to speed up the car starts to judder and it feels like it is holding back if I stay at the same speed it feel a little bit jumpy and not right, once it has warmed up fully it's ok most of the time but I does seam to be hold back a bit and not as smooth and quick as it was before when I 1st had it, Ive also cleaned out the throttle body this help it bit. . I have just had it back from VW last friday which it had a service and I also told them about this but they could not find any fault on their dignostic, please can someone help me with this problem or tell me where to start to solve it .Thanks.....

Relays! First culprit to check anyhow! Fuel and ECU relays.

They are only 10/12 quid each from the VAG stealers.

And you can bet they will go eventually as its one of the most common faults on Mk3's

Nah mate up under the dash in the fuse box. This is down by the drivers right knee. Fuses at the bottom, relays above.
Its number 30 fro the ECU and I believe 167 fuel the fuel.

The symptoms you described were classic for the relays!

Hmmmmm how about dizzy cap and rotor arm? They been changed lately?
