'popping' during deceleration
« on: 14 April 2007, 19:13 »
Hey, had a stainless steel exhaust fitted a few months back from the downpipe back. Everything has been fine until today when i noticed a loud popping noise from the exhaust while im slowing down. If i dip the clutch and 'coast' to a stand still it doesnt happen, only happens when its left in gear and i come to a slow stop.

Any ideas?

I love the sound of the overrun, if it don't do it then your not driving hard enough.

check that the exhaust is sealed at all the joints, if you don't like the noise

I think over run is unburnt fuel being pushed though the hot exhaust system. Imagine at the top of the rev range, there's a lot of fuel being injected into the fuel intake system, there will be a slight delay between letting off the gas which closes the butterfly valve at air intake. or something like that! that's how I understand it anyway  :undecided:

Unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust usually it's all good and probably spits little blue flames out which stops corsa's tailgating you when you slow down (no chance when your going lol)

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

yep, mine does it too... despite running a bit lean!

was described by a friend (following me at the time, we were going like the clappers) as like a touring car popping flames...

mine has a full stainless system and a four branch manifold.

I don't think a semi will give the same results

It shouldn't do it, popping usually means your timing is out, mine popped like a goodun till I set the timing correctly.
