What a load of nonsense - using your logic then, the 35 profiles in my RS4 should have me addmitted to a spinal injuries unit!

40 series tyres on the GTI work just fine - which is why the manufacturer recommended them in the first place!

No, they shouldn't have you admitted to a spinal unit, as the suspension on the RS4 allows for it.

Exactly, and using the same logic, the Golf V GTI was designed for 45 and 40 profiles.  :nerd:

The Eibach springs fitted as standard to my Mk4 Anniversary didn't cope too well - thats all!

Ahh, but we are discussing MkVs here !!

Incidentally, what make of boots were you using?  Because different makes/types of tyre, of identical sizes can have noticeable differences between them, and comfort is just one of those issues.

Hi all, good to be part of the forum.

Have been looking around at the other threads on best tyres for minimising road noise and improving the ol' ride comfort conundrum.... are there any new tyres on the market that are helping with this issue?

Regardless, can someone please advise the money-no-object (within reason) tyre to go for!

Cheers

PS - anyone know of any GTI tuning experts in South Wales area?

Best tyres = Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 - period.

Nothing else can match it, and they arn't much more expensive than other so-called premium boots!  :nerd:

After a round trip of 800 miles this weekend, most of which was on our M roads, I can conclude the Dunlop Spaz Max tyre are sh!te for straight line stability. I can't wait to rub them out and buy some PS2's.

Hooray, another opinion of the uselessness of the SportCrapz - I think we ought to set up a website - www.DunlopSportMaxxAreShyte.com

What pressures are you running?

When I first got the GTI, the standard (upto 3 peeps) pressures were 35 all round - and I thought it had the straight line stability of a Chivers jelly.  After some experimenting, I now run 43psi front and 37 rear, and that seems to have sorted the stability, and they are still wearing evenly across the tread width.  :nerd:

I was (from new) running their recommended 40 psi, but uped it to 44, which has reduced understeer no end, but in a straight line she feel twitchy.

43 psi????

Yup, but then I have been known to out-brake Scoobys and M3s - so I do put the fronts under considerable stress.

Remember, pressures on the sticker are only "recommeded" pressures - you are perfectly free to "tweak" them to suit your own drivng style, though I wouldn't recommend going lower than about 2-3psi, due to the potential for excessive heat build up.

Incidentally, higher pressures create a lower rolling resistance, and should actually improve your fuel consumption.  :nerd:

Is it the front or rear which is causing the instability?

I'd say front.  :undecided:
