rounded bolts on vibration damper

Having issues with this. I cant get the timing belt cover off untill i can remove the darn vibration damper  :sad:and the cars currently sat there waiting for the rebuild head to go back on. anyone have any ideas as this antisipation is killing me?

The bolts are actually fairly soft and it seems that some butcher has rounded off the allen heads before you got to it. You could try using an allen socket and gently tap it home with a hammer. You may get just enough purchase on it to loosen it. Other than that, you will need to gently drill through the middle and use what is called an eezee out, or a screw extracter. Its like a very course reverse thread which you screw into the drilled bolt in an undoing direction, (anticlockwise). I was lucky and managed to extract my burgered bolt using this method.

cheers mate, i eventually got 3 out with a hammer and chisel, and had to drill out the forth before the damper dropped off. I thought after removing the vibration damper, the bottom belt cover would come stright off, but it looks like i need to remove the actual crank pulley aswell.. is this right?
 ill be finishing the job once i pick up my exhuast downpipe studs after work tommorow so i really need to know how to get this pulley cover off.. whats the best way to stop the engine turning over if ive got to undo the crank pulley?

can any one shed any light here for me plz.. i need my car back asap, and this is holding me back  i have love to share with anyone who knows wat im supposed to do. how do i stop the damn engine tuning over?

There are another two bolts at the bottom of the cover. One is, or it is on mine, an allen head and the other is I think a 10mm bolt head. I can´t remember if you need to remove the second pulley. If it is the cam belt pulley, then it stays on. As for stopping the crankshaft rotating, use a socket with a long extention, preferably 1/2 inch drive with a ratchet handle, onto the pulley bolt and hold it in position with that, whilst undoing the smaller bolts with another socket and ratchet. It can be a little fiddley, but persevere and it will work. Don´t worry about loosening the crankshaft pulley bolt. The torque on that is silly foot pounds and it SHOULD stay tight.

ive undone the to lower 10mm bolts, removed the outer pulley which drives the water pump and power steering pump, but the cover still wont come off. the only bolt left to undo is the crank one.. and i have no idea how.. ive put the head back on and done other stuff for now, but i just need to sort this belt out and time it up. pleas someone as its pi**ing me off now

You say you have removed the bottom pulley that attaches to the crank? This pulley attaches directly to the bottom cam belt drive, and can be fitted in one position only. (Position marks) Behind this pulley, to the left side if the cam belt drive is another bolt which I believe is an allen headed thing. Have you removed this one? There is another one on the outside of the cover, fairly close to the first one which is I think a 10mm. Is this one also out?
I don´t have power steering on mine, but I have air con, and I don,t know how the two differ as in pulley arrangements.
Once you have all the bolts out that you can see, gently pull the cover and see where it is still attached. Then carry on from there. I don´t have any pictures to put up, but if you can put up pictures of the dilema, then maybe I or someone can be of more help.

You have to remove both crank pulleys, to get the lower belt cover off.  The 4 allen bolts hold on BOTH pulleys, DONT undo the large one in the middle!  Get a puller on the pulley if it wont pop off
