Has anyone used these coilovers on their Mk2?  If so how have you found them?

IMO you get what you pay for, why risk it? Suspension is such a vital part of the car.

have to agree - I have had the cheap suspension kits (not the coilies) off ebay, they do the job for the money!

I have just put Eibach springs on and can't believe the difference in the handling/ride of the car!

Well I have the jamex (same as these just different brand) on my Bora, and the ride although firm isn't jarring and its lowered a fair bit, cost me £299 then £100 to fit and allign them from midlandvw. wouldnt pay for fitting on a mk2 though its dead easy. Plus they are stainless steel so wont corrode like FKs. Ok they are not the quality of KWs but they are not the price either. I am happy with them and its my daily.

Cause my budget won't stretch to £400-£600.  I want to lower the ride height and stiffen the suspension on a budget.  Most of my cash goes on my family and my house which leaves me little left to modify the golf (bear in mind I've already thrown £700 at my current car getting it back on the road).

Ok, so they aren't gonna be a patch on a £600 setup but how risky can it be?  Ideally I want a second hand Koni/Eibach setup but they are so hard to come by.

a lot less risky than second hand suspension its not something I would fit to my car. Like I say my bora (my family car) has these fitted, speak to jody at midlandvw, he is a very knowledgible bloke as most people will tell you, he has not had a single complaint about them. He charges £299 with a 2 year guarantee (manufacturers).

I couldnt tell any difference in the build of these to eibach coilovers I have looked at, they are made in the bv hitrac factory in NL, they make suspension for a lot of the big names.

This is how low I am running (well a little more since they settled, this was taken the day of fitting and the ride is really quite good)

if you're not going to lower to the deck, and are not going to adjust ride height once you have it set, then don't bother with coilovers - I was tempted by the cheap coilovers as well!

Buy a set of GAZ shocks off ebay (supposed to be very good - the gold coloured ones are damping adjustable!) and a set of eibach springs, all new mounts and you should still see change from £300. Fit them your self its easy!

My money too goes on my house and family so know where you are coming from -  I too have skimped on suspension and its ended up costing me more in time and £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£s than if I'd just gone down the eibach and decent shocks route to start with!!!

thats my two penneth for what its worth!

Well I'm not going to drop it to the deck as it's my track car but i do want to stop it from lifting a rear wheel 6 inches off the ground when I corner.  I also want something that's going to remain fairly composed and flat in the corners.  I know that Eibachs alone will set me back the better part of £130 (which is basically my budget) but I can fit them with standard shocks.  However if I want to go lower than 40mm I'll need to buy shocks aswell.  I can't afford uprated ARB's and am only using the car on the road occasionally.  So if I want to spend £130 what's the best thing I can do without resorting to spending it on a G-Max setup.  I could stretch to £200 at a push.

As always your comments are welcome.

gmax are actually a very good manufacturer!

They do actually make their own springs etc... and also supply a lot of the leading names, who rebrand tham as there own! (e.g. FK springs and coilovers are actually gmax!) I was also recommended a Supersport Kit, (Should be within ur budget) These are German made so can't be that bad!

I wouldn't go with the Ebay kit it has too much roll for a track car!

If your shocks are in good condition go with the eibach pro kit - you won't be disappointed!
