EXHAUST MANIFOLDS
« on: 29 March 2007, 21:02 »
I HAVE A 2.0 TALL BLOCK IN MY GOLF AND MY DOWNPIPE IS STARTING TO BLOW I AM CONSIDERING A 4 BRANCH MANIFOLD AND HAVE HEARD THAT A MK THREE GOLF 2.0 8V 4BRANCH WILL FIT BETTER THAN A MK 2 GTI 8V DUE TO TALL BLOCK BEING FITTED.
HAS ANYONE HEARD THIS OR DONE THIS TO THEIR GOLF
MINE IS A 1990 8V DIGI IF THIS MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE ALL ADVICE ON THIS MATTER IS APPRECIATED AS I DONT WANT TO BUY A MK2 OR MK3 MANIFOLD AND IT NOT FIT AS SODS LAW I WILL PACK THE WRONG ONE CHEERS

Do you have the mk2 head fitted or the mk3? I've got a feeling that the spacing of the ports is different so you would need to choose the manifold based on the head.

That may well be completely wrong so don't take my word for it, it's just no one else answered!!

the heads the same as 1.8L on most models before 1998... tall block just means the crank throw is more, i.e. engine stroke is longer...

any 8v mk2 performance manifold will fit it

unless you got the audi bubble block the 2.0l block is about 17mm taller ive ordered a ashley mild steel manifold £162 ill let you know if it fits when i get and how to make it fit if it doesnt it i know a 16v front mounts ment to help as it tilts the engine back a bit i wouldnt bother with a stainless one they are dearer and prone to cracking and if you need to mod it by weilding it or heating it up to bend it.you will weaken it and it will crack stainless is harder but more brittle if you know what i mean

i was flicking through some old golf mags and there was one bit that said a 4 branch creates a lot more noise and a better route is to fit a mk2 16v downpipe as mine is quite loud at the moment i dont need it any louder so has any one got any other advice for me to mull over cheers
