Fitting extra speakers to mk3
« on: 27 March 2007, 21:19 »
I've currently got a pretty much standard mk3 Gl with 6x9 jbl speakers in the parcel shelf being the only mod (apart from new cd player). How easy would it be to connect up another speaker as I was considering making a mount in the space right next to where your knees are (the massive gap for keys etc to go just below the ashtray in the center console) and fitting a small speaker to have something different. There is a hole at the back of the area (near the top) that is easily accessable (could touch my finger tips by putting one finger through passenger side (behind center console) and the other through the hole in the gap.
Also, how easy is it to do the wiring for a sub in the back and would these new additions (along with the 6x9 on the parcel shelf) affect the battery power enough to require a 2nd battery to be fitted?
Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated.
Cheers - Tom

hope the pics make sense.

this is where i have run the cables in my mk3, i can give you instuctions on exactly how to fit the sub and amp if you want or need them. for a bit of fun you could check this too!...

as for a second battery... that all depends on the power you want dude!!

dont mean to wee on your fire as it were but have you thought about upgrading the front door spks? you will notice a lot of difference as 6x9s make no difference once you do your fronts cept a bit of extra mid bass, but they will definatly be drowned with a half decent sub!

Yeah, the guy with the mk2 (lovely car by the way mate) was the inspiration. Was going to upgrade front and rear speakers at some point but im low on cash at the moment as i've got a cambelt change coming up. Cheers for the advice, ill post pics up of when it gets finished (or should that be if?)
