Mk2 Speaker connections.

I'm going to replace the sppeakers in my Mk2 and i've just looked at the speaker connections.  It's a black clip.  I really don't know anything about this kind of thing and I wanted to know how I would connect my new speakers up.  I'm sorry for being so vague here guys but I really need advice on this.

right, the black clip, one of the terminals on it should be bigger than the other, if they are you need to match this with the replacement speakers because the new ones definately will have one bigger and one smaller terminal . if the black clip hasnt got a bigger term and a smaller one then either the existing speakers and/or the black clip will have + and - signs on it ( the markings will be tiny! ), the + sign goes to the bigger terminal on the new speakers and the - to the smaller one. you will need to cut the black clip off, keep it if you ever plan to replace the speakers, and crimp on some new spade connectors form halfords or better still solder the wires straight on to the new spks if you can.

Thanks for your reply.  I think i'll just go to Ray Smiths (Edinburgh) and get them to do it.  It'll cost a little more but if I do it i'll mess something up.

i wouldnt, but its up to you, its hard to go wrong, if you follow what i said ( print it out if you cant remember it!). The main problem with replacing door speakers ( if they are for the doors, you havn't said!)  is the phisical depth of the spks, my experience of ice fitters is not at all good, its better to do it yourself, then you know what has been done and how to sort it if there is a problem.
