mk3 8v misfire / 5K rev limit

Right I'm struggling here.

mk3 8v(ADY engine) has hesistant misfire and won't rev past 5000 revs.

Diagnostic revealed hall sender fault.
This looked to be because the distributor was in the wrong position.

Anyway, cambelt changed, all timed up correctly, and distributor back in correct position.
Fault code reset and the car was a different car for 2-3 miles.  Then back to the same problems.

Hall sender fault code had reappeared.

So I replaced the hall sender within the distributor.
Reset the fault code.
Again the car was alright for 1-2 miles then I can tell the car is back in limp mode.

Any ideas?

Also might be worth doing an ECU reset by disconnecting the battery for 10/15 mins.

Once you have reset the timing properly first!

Thanks but:

Camshaft gear arrow with the words O/T pointing to the arrow on the head with the words O/T.
Dot punch on flywheel in centre of flywheel inspection hole.
Centre of rotor arm pointing to notch on distributor housing.

What else?

ok the only other thing I can think of is the crank sensor, if you have one.  Double check the timing though :)

afaik the dizzy on the ADY is not adjustible, so you might have to get it put on VAG COM to get the timing set...

Double checked the timing last night.
It's correct as stated above.

The replacement hall sender had the pick-up at the opposite side of the distributor body(i.e. 180 degrees out)
Would this create an issue?
The literature that came with it said it would have no effect but I'm unsure???

as long as the rotor arm is pointing to the TDC mark it should not matter.  I think you need to get it on VAG COM to get the timing setup.

As I said before I don't think the ADY dizzy should rotate, AFAIK its locked in position using a keyway?

Yes, 2 pins lock it in position either side of the bolt.
