mk2 16v losing power and juddering
« on: 05 March 2007, 17:15 »
Hi,
got a problem. my 16v, after it's heated up (but not neccesarily overheating) likes to judder violently and lose a good few 100 rpm for a second or 2 at a time. it seems worse if i'm in slow traffic, to the point where it can cause a stall-again, the temp gauge needle can just be at the 1st mark after the 1/2 way point. when it's happening and i accelerate, it kangaroos pretty violently, but if i ease off, it's not as pronounced.

1 thing i've noticed is that when it happens, the fuel pump sounds like it's sucking air. and it is more likely to happen, but not exclusively, when the fuel tank approaches empty. it has done it on a half tank before. not sure if the air-sucking sound could be a cause or an effect.

  any ideas?
Ta,
Chris.

If the lift pump is the problem then get it changed a.s.a.p  because if its lest it can end up buggering the under car fuel pump and they ain't cheep

could be lots of other things to though,
sh!tty injectors?
Vacum leak?
I've had many problems with my 16v since i've had it and 2 months dwon tghe line i'm just about happy with the way it runs. I've replace injectors, vacum tubing (most of it was buggered) and lots of other bits and bobs. get yourself a haynes manual and check the pump using that method.
just need to get it set up properly.
