Give Chris Knott insurance a go.

I was 19, 1 years ncb, just under 2 years driving and a fairly decent postcode and it was £800 tpft&t. That included shocks/springs, stainless exhaust system and a k&n filter. They were cheaper than HIC and Adrian Flux by a couple of hundred quid(i guess they just aim for a different section of the market), so worth a go.

Admiral/elephant/bell are all worth a go as they were around the 800 quid mark, although that was with the car standard.

£5500 for insurance, just ridiculous.

I might give that top guy a go when i turn 19, bit pointless tryingto buy it now because after uni i might be going abroad for 3 months so i wont be using a car over here.

I was going to ask how badly the insurance would rape me on putting a 2L 16v mk2 engine in a caddy but i already know the answer to that one

Although i think a mk2 gti will be enough of a power gap for me for now

when I Was 19 it cost me £1450 TPF&T on a 8v gti. a year later with a claim and it cost me £1094 fully comp.

call as many companies as you can. HIC aren't the only specialist company that deal with modified golfs. Adrian flux, Brentacre and performance direct are a few more. look in the back of a car mag. there are a lot in there. :)

a 10 month policy is great for quickly building up your no claims bonus, but remember when you get the price that it is only 10 months and not 12 as usual.
