Radio Code help, displays 1000??

Hi all,

I recently removed my factory cassete & cd unit out of my MK4 golf and relaced it with a JVC unit. I have now put the factory kit back in the car. The unit first says "safe" then just displays 1000. Does anyone know how to find the code? The serial on the side is half ripped off so all i have is: VWZ3Z3878

Any help would be great!

nice! some VW dealers charge for this wonderful service, if they are the same as peugeot anyway! you may be able to get it if you know the model number and make of the stereo, some codes are unique though, thats how they get you! dont suppose you have the original VW handbook no?
