No need to take the bonnet off (waste of what little time you have). Label wires up which you think you wont remember where they go or are not obvious where they go! You dont need any special tools as such, just a good collection of sockets and spanners.
The one thing you will have most trouble with (I did) is splitting the manifold from the downpipe! I'll give you a bit of advice here though... you can get to the front 3 nuts from under the car with a long extension bar on your ratchet or breaker bar. The back 3 can only be gotten to from the top. Use a 17mm spanner cut in half or a moon type spanner (looks like a C shape kind of) due to the lack of room around that area. I found it easier to work on if the upper half of the inlet manifold was removed.

You will need the special star key bit to unbolt the inner cv joints from the flanges and yeah as pegasus says the manifold can be a b!tch.
Regarding the wiring, get yourself some tyraps that have the label flag on them and numbers them 1,2,3...........put them on each wire you remove then write yourself a key to the numbers on a piece of paper. It's pretty obvious where they all go but best to save any headaches if possible.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

if you're taking the g/box out aswell its a lot easier to drop it down to the floor and lift the a car over or drag it out from underneath  :smug:

the engine will bolt to the stand using the bolt holes where the g/box would go (have you got some M12 threaded bar?)
