Did you nit get a spare litre, in a nice little pouch, in the boot?

Only VWs on LongLife servicing get the "free" oil in the boot.  If you ask for time/distance servicing, the tight g!ts don't provide the freebie!

Tight wads, no harm in mixing long life with time and distance oil is there??

It won't do any "harm" as such - but the LongLife oil is actually rated to a higher temperature, which is pretty handy for turbos

Reason I ask, is I've just had the car set to yearly service, so I'd imagine the dealer used the lower spec oil, but I have 2 bottles of the good stuff. Good for topping up

I'm averaging 34mpg day to day and high 30's on long trips (and that's not hanging around -by my standards anyway!!)

I'm lucky if I can average in the 30s on long trips - it tends to be 26-28 day to day

I went into VW to check my service regime and they told me it was default on longlife when new - I suppose the lack of spare oil is another one of the joys of buying an import

laney, i also average 27-28 round town and mid 30's on a run, that is always been the cars bug bear as to every time you wanna take it out, im always looking down at the dam fuel gauge watching it drop really quick.
i have to be honest, have been eyeing up the new seat leon FR with the 140bhp diesel lump, good write up, looks the mutz nutz, but havent driven one yet. fuel figures say a return of 44mpg round town and over 50 on a run. visit www.seat.co.uk and have a look at the FR SERIES leon.I dont wanna let the gti go cus its the best ever ive had , but cant get over the fact of putting in over £30 a week to struggle to get 200 miles in return. :undecided:

I'm sure you can afford the £12-13 (retail) for a litre of oil out of the ~£3K saving you got buying an import

BTW Castrol SLX Longlife II oil is now called Castrol Edge 5w/30 just in case you don't see Longlife II.

There's a list of approved oils at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-octavia/what-oils-meets-specs-vw-504-00-507-00-a/55476/ (don't know how accurate) but make sure you check the bottle for the magic VW approval.  They all cost about the same so I'd stick with the Castrol stuff.

The dealer shouldn't have put anything other than the proper LongLife oil in it, even though they changed the regime to time/distance - note the underlined bit though - with main dealers, anything is possible!

If you give it beans, I'd recommend going onto 10k miles or 1 year servicing, and getting the dealer to re-code it for time/distance servicing!

Hey Phil, take a look at what I get from my 2003 vintage!   I'm sometimes lucky if I can get 200 miles from 66 litre tank

Seat Leon (any variety) =            - ETTO though!

I did actually have a look at the Leon Cupra - what a $hite interior!

Trouble is, if you do chop your GTI for a sofa, you will forever regret it, and you'll get never-ending ribbing when peeps look at your armchair - and you accidently tell them you used to own a GTI
